The name of the game
A good putter can play with anyone. It is so important to keep good posture during the putting stroke. It will allow you to get a better roll on the ball and keep you from picking your head up, which is probably one of the most common mistakes golfers make, myself included. A 72 par golfcourse allows 36 strokes to get to the green and 36 putts, each hole allows two putts. Thats half your strokes. PRACTICE YOUR PUTTING
Tigers driving accuracy still needs some work.
Tiger Woods still needs to polish up on his driving skills. At 2:25 am ET Eldrick Tigers Woods struck a fire hydrant and a neighbors tree, while exiting his own driveway. He was then rescued by his wife Elin Nordegren, by breaking the back windshield of his Cadillac Escalade with a golf club. He had minor cuts and bruises and received some medical treatment. The National Enquirer reported Tiger was having an affair while competing in the Melbourne, Australian Masters with Rachel Uchitel, a New York night club hostess . The accident happened just two days after these published allegations were made. He has cancelled all police follow-up interviews and made a statement on his website today.
”As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I’m pretty sore.
This situation is my fault, and it’s obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I’m human and I’m not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn’t happen again.
This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.
The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.
This incident has been stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how intrusive some people can be,” Tiger said.
Winter Tips
Keep your flexibility- Go through your warm up routine once or twice a week.
Keep your feel- Hold a golf club once a week and swing it if possible. This helps keep your hands educated and makes it easier to keep your feel over the winter months.
Keep your head- visualize yourself hitting golf shots, ball trajectory and ball shape, on an imaginary course. Practice making each swing in your mind and adjust your swing to make the desired shot. This should be similar to your pre-shot routine. It will help you visualize your shot shape and swing. Make a practice swing, then hit the ball. Visualization will also calm your nerves by hitting the shot over and over in your head.
Ball Mark Repair
90% of ballmarks occur on the front half of the green. A good rule of thumb is repair your ball mark and one other. This will help the greens recover quicker, insure a better roll on your putts, and help your Golf Course Superintendant.
Tiger Woods and Bobby Jones
“Golf is a game that is played on a five-inch course – the distance between your ears.”
-Bobby Jones
Golf is 95 % mental and believe most pros would agree, the other is 5% physical. PGA tour player’s physical abilities are relitively close to other players tour players. Some players are physically stronger and create more club head speed but technology has decreased the gap between long hitters and short hitters. The new golf balls along with club and shafts also help the ball fly further and straighter. In my opinion, what it boils down to is whos mental game is better?
Today, Tiger Woods has the best mental game in golf and maybe even in the world of sports. No matter what adversity comes his way he has the uncanny ability to forget the previous shot and has a remarkable ability to execute shots under pressure. If you notice when he plays and wins, he always has that one shot that is the turning point in the match. He does this by never giving up. He and his competition knows, he is never going to give up and will do anything neccessary to win. In fact , scores are one shot higher when Tiger is in the field. This is know as the Tiger Effect.
In 2005, Michelle Wie played in her first LPGA tour event one week before her 16th birthday. She then announced she was turning professional and signed a sponsorship contract with Sony and Nike worth an estimated 10 million a year. I think it’s clear she has the game to compete on the LPGA tour. She’s long off the tee, a great iron player, and has a decent short game. Her putting isn’t great and should improve with more experience, but does she have the mental game to compete? Does she have what it takes to be 100% focused on every shot or is all the attention in the media and the alleged 10 million dollars per year gone to her head? She has never had to prove herself on the LPGA tour. Should she need to prove herself before getting paid? Is she hungry enough to grind out more wins? Everyone in the industry had to prove themselves, including Tiger woods, Phil Mickleson and Vijay Singh. What will make her want to strive to succeed when everything was given to her?
